Located at the cellar door of the award winning vineyard Milton on Tasmania's East Coast, Sophie's restaurant offers a French approach to Tasmanian produce.

Sophie’s is the creation of chef Sophie Bermudes, who trained in Bordeaux and has spent the majority of her career working throughout the south-west of France. Having developed her keen sense for combining and contrasting flavours and textures, Sophie has come to Tasmania's East Coast and established herself at Milton VIneyard's cellar door. With her French approach to Tasmanian produce, along with a passion for food and meticulous attention to detail, Sophie’s offers guests a seasonal and delicious a la carte lunch menu in a relaxed environment.

Sophie's offers you a gastronomic experience in a beautiful setting. Come and enjoy a long lunch at Milton's idyllic vineyard! .

Sophie's is seeking someone to become the heart of our kitchen for the upcoming season: our dishwasher!

Shifts will start in the morning and run through until the end of service. Your principal responsibility will be ensuring that the dishes are cleaned to the highest standard and quickly, along with keeping the kitchen tidy during the service. You will also be required to assist Chef where necessary, namely with basic/deep kitchen preparation in the morning, and will be trained to assist with plating simple dishes (e.g. cheese platters, oysters, desserts...) during the service, and running food and clearing tables when required.

Successful applicants will:

  • Have a knowledge of and implement best practice regarding food preparation and hygiene
  • Have basic knife skills
  • Listen, take instruction and be willing to learn new skills
  • Be patient, calm, polite, responsible and respectful with your colleagues, Milton staff, and most importantly, our customers
  • Have an eye for detail, take pride in your work and maintain the highest of standards at all times
  • Be proficient in English
  • Be physically fit
  • Be flexible with shift start and end times (don't worry, we will give you fair warning)
  • Thrive under pressure, work hard, and have a big heart
  • Be reliable, independent, courteous and use their initiative
  • Coffee making experience & knowledge of French is a bonus, but not a requirement.

What will you get out of it?

  • Be fairly compensated in wages and tips
  • The chance to learn and grow in the kitchen
  • To work a long season (around 8 months) and save
  • Work in one of the most beautiful places on earth, and the most beautiful vineyard in Tasmania!

Casual waiter/waitress

Sophie's is looking for a front of house star! As our most public-facing staff member, the waiter or waitress will be key to the overall experience of our broad customer demographic throughout the season, and the main connection between the kitchen and the tables.

The waitstaff shift will start just prior to the service (11am-ish) through to- or just prior to- the close. Traditional waiting duties make up the bulk of this position: meeting and greeting guests, taking food and coffee orders (customers order and pay for all other drinks from the Milton cellar door bar), running food and clearing & cleaning tables. You will also be responsible for cash handling, coffee making duties and dispute resolution. You may be required to assist with some kitchen preparation and dishwashing if the need arises.

Successful applicants will:

  • Be experienced and highly competent as a waiter/waitress
  • Have excellent verbal and written (think dockets) communication skills
  • Take pride in your personal presentation
  • Be experienced, trustworthy and square with cash handling
  • Be comfortable with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures
  • Have a knowledge of and implement best practice regarding food preparation and hygiene
  • Listen, take instruction and be willing to learn new skills
  • Be patient, calm, polite, responsible and respectful with your colleagues, Milton staff, and most importantly, our customers
  • Have an eye for detail, take pride in your work and maintain the highest of standards at all times
  • Be fluent in English
  • Be physically fit
  • Be flexible with shift start and end times (don't worry, we will give you fair warning)
  • Thrive under pressure, work hard, and have a big heart
  • Be reliable, independent, courteous and use their initiative
  • Knowledge of wine and foreign languages (e.g. French, Spanish, German) is a bonus, but not a requirement

What will you get out of it?

  • Be fairly compensated in wages and tips
  • The chance to learn and grow in the realms of service and wine knowledge
  • To work a long season (around 8 months) and save
  • Work in one of the most beautiful places on earth, and the most beautiful vineyard in Tasmania!
